Sometimes it is easier to have just one family wall calendar hanging up somewhere that everyone can look at and write on. You have some great options these days if that is more your style.
The Set-up:
Using just one calendar hanging up somewhere means you don't have to keep a bunch of other calendars in sync. It also means that everyone can easily add things to it.
The Basics:
- Master calendar: easy access for whole family
- Purse calendar: only if you frequently need to reference
- Post-it notes: to take a list of the day's activities with you
The Details:
White Boards: White board calendars are great because they let you add and change things quickly. You can also get fancy if you want and use different colors for each family member. The important thing to look for is one with enough space to write everything. Most places sell the basic one month undated versions. Here are two others to consider:
Paper Calendar: I am not a fan of paper calendars because they are harder to erase and update. However, it has been pointed out that they also cannot be erased by someone brushing against them. They are pre-printed which is a time saver. And, you can add items to future months. So, here are links to some suggestions:
- Giant desk pad calendar, from Staples(yes, it is huge, but there is room for everything!)
- Mom's Family Calendar by Sandra Boynton, from Amazon (great calendar with separate spaces for each family member)
Purse calendar: there are hundreds of options. Just make sure it can easily fit into your purse. The hardest thing for me was to keep it in sync with the master calendar. That was the main reason we switched to digital calendars.
Post-it notes: these can be a sanity saver. Keep them by the master calendar so you can write down things to remember for that day. Then, stick it on your car's dashboard so you won't forget it's your turn to pick up the carpool from baseball practice today.
